Kathakar is an app for creating a story with illustrations and voice over. The app lets you control every step in the creation process, ensuring that the final product is exactly what you need.

Click here to use the app.

The steps in using the app are:

  1. Select an existing project (to continue creating the story) or New. If you select New, you will be prompted to give a name to your project.
  2. On the next screen, give the theme of your story, the number of pages you want and the target age of the reader.
  3. The app gives you the text on each page and the image prompt that it will use to generate the image. You can edit the text and the image prompts. For example, you could add "a young Indian boy" to an image prompt to ensure that the image is appropriate. You can also edit text to make sure that the words used are appropriate for the target age.
  4. The app then shows you three images for each page. Select the one you like most for each page.
  5. The app selects a long line and converts it into speech using a voice. Select the voice you like most.
  6. The app opens the story in a new tab. You can go through the story and listen to it too. If you want to see words highlighted when spoken, click on the yellow play button, if you just want to listen to the story, click on the black play button.
  7. To save the story, go to the previous tab and click on Save. A zip file will be downloaded. Extract the files into a convenient directory and open "story.html".
