The Problem

The attitude of teachers and students towards science and mathematics needs to be changed.

Science is not just learning facts and theories but learning to think like a scientist, learning to explore the world around us, to come up with theories about why events take place the way they do.

Maths is much more than just number crunching! Arithmetic is a very important, but very small part of mathematics!

The Process

• 10 Government schools in a region are identified and two teachers from each school are nominated to participate in the program.
• Teachers attend a 5 day workshop where they learn to make 60 models in science and mathematics and learn to perform 40 experiments.
• During the workshop, they are expected to reason and understand the science and mathematics behind the models on their own! They thus understand how they should work with their own students!
• Five copies of the materials needed to make the models and perform the experiments is given to each school (including one copy used in the workshop).
• The teachers spend a month passing on their learnings to the students, using the materials provided and the techniques they have learnt.
• Students, under the guidance of their teachers, arrange an exhibition in their schools and showcase their understanding of science and maths.
